Ohio Cold Snap Doesn’t Stop Dressage Enthusiasts
Sharon Center, OH, February 08, 2007 --- Despite the cold weather, Cleveland area riders and horses
from Training level thru Grand Prix benefited from a training opportunity with Canadian Dave Thind at
Schwung Farm.
Regardless of the level, Dave focused on good basics including responsiveness to light-aids, rhythm and
relaxation. It is clear that Dave strictly adheres to the principles of the German classical training scale and
that short-cuts will not be taken for the sake of short-lived success.
What’s more is that Dave ensured that some of the upper-level riders were clear on the adjustments that
would need to be made in their riding for their young horses, including the promising Hanoverian FEI 4-year-
old candidate Guilliani.
Several times throughout the course of the day, Dave repeated a few requests: “Sit lighter”, “shorten your
stirrups and point your knees-down”, “not too short in the neck”, “forward but not fast”, “cover more
ground” and many other words of wisdom which all basically reflect the axiom “less is more”.
His analogies and visualizations proved to be very helpful and through Dave’s instructions, all the horses
began to move more freely with enhanced throughness and balance. Not once were any of the horses
asked to do more than their current fitness maturity levels would allow.
On an as needed basis, Dave briefly mounted a variety of horses including a Grand Prix Schoolmaster and
just backed 3 year-old Pinto.
Schwung Farm is pleased to announce that Dave is committed to returning on a regular basis. For
information on how to audit or be added to the waiting list to ride in the next clinic, please contact Fallon

More about Dave
As an international level competitor and clinician, Dave’s ability to guide riders of all levels into feeling and
reproducing improvement is what sets this Canadian trainer apart. Although now comfortably back in the
saddle, a back injury and the possibility of never riding again led to Dave’s fascination with human and
equine biomechanics and his close study of various body awareness techniques including Feldenkrais®,
Centered Riding®, Pilates and Yoga. Combined with a solid foundation in classical dressage, this
combination has allowed Dave to help competitive riders excel from basic to international levels. Currently
based in Germany, Dave keeps up with his own education by riding with some of the best European
trainers.
